Victoria SONGWRITERS' CIRCLE -

  Are you a budding songwriter?  Are you interested in sharing your work?  Then you might be interested in participating in a Songwriter's Circle held the first Wed of every month.  
  
  The philosophy behind this circle is that we should have a forum for sharing knowledge about the music industry & recording, as well as sharing our works in progress.  
  
  We also aim to learn about the craft of songwriting by giving and receiving thoughtful & useful critique offered in a respectful & positive manner.  Since those who are sharing come from varied backgrounds & are at different skill levels, members are particularly vunerable when allowing others to comment on their work.  Before a song is shared, the writer should specifically state whether or not they wish feedback on the song, and, if so, what they are wanting feedback on.  It is extremely important for those giving feedback to be gentle in their comments, always try to find something positive to say, and not belabour their point!!  In all instances, the goal is to encourage, support & nurture other participants.  All opinions given are just that... they can be used or discarded as the writer wishes.
  
  In the offchance we get several people wanting to share, there will be a sign-up list for 'open mike', those who don't get a chance to share at the next meeting will be invited to be first at the next meeting.  
  
  You can share your work in any way you wish - read the lyric, sing it to us, play it on a CD, etc.  There will be a keyboard available, a CD player, or you can bring your guitar, etc.   It might be useful to bring copies of your lyric for the others to look at while you share.  
  
  In the Fall we intend to organize one or two songwriting workshops with professional musicians.
