Blessing Moon

Grandmother Moon rises tonight fully illuminated by the diffused light of our local Sun. The Shadow is known.

Feminine energies transport us to the deepest realms of the psyche to dislodge feelings and beliefs locked away in the subconscious. This is the Moon of the Sage Woman, the High Priestess. Invite her healing grace to touch your heart, soothe your mind, stir your soul.

In the Buddhist tradition, this Full Moon is the culmination of the Festival of Tara, female embodiment of compassion. In the Wiccan calendar, this is the Blessing Moon, when the soul's messages are carried on the wings of dreams.

To make the most of this lunation, set aside time for meditation, planning for spiritual goals, divination and conscious dreaming. Wear pearls and moonstones to align with lunar goddess energy. Chant. Drum. Create.

Radiate perfect love and compassion to all beings. Celebrate the abundant blessings of this life. Draw down the Moon on gossamer thread.

Mercury's Maze

Are we having fun yet with Mercury?

Mercury stationed retrograde on July 4 and now moves "backward" in the sky from our vantage point on Earth. During his retrograde transit, things are known to go haywire.

Stay alert to potential accidents, especially those involving vehicles and other mechanical equipment. Delays are common. Progress is slow.

Double-check facts, communicate clearly, confirm appointment times, have your car serviced, back up your computer.

Don't bother starting something new or signing contracts unless you feel like undoing or redoing them later.

Instead, focus on unfinished business and reworking projects you’ve already started. Anything with "re" in the name is appropriate: revise, reconsider, retool, retreat, relax, rejuvenate.

Mercury transits back into Cancer today, so unresolved emotional issues are ripe for healing, especially those you've been dealing with since early June.

This, too, shall pass. The Messenger of the Heavens returns to forward motion on July 28.

In the meantime, patience and humor are the best medicine when plans misfire or you have to retrace your steps. Sometimes the long way around brings unexpected delights.

Planetary Alignments Update

In their celestial dance, the planets align in a rich, complex pattern at this Full Moon, and the effects of several long-standing aspects will stay with us for weeks. A Grand Water Trine with Jupiter, Uranus and the Sun brings creativity, intuition and healing. Anything could happen when the Moon occults Uranus. Venus opposes Pluto, baring the soul of our relationships and finances.

This Full Moon alignment features an especially creative, dynamic, complementary opposition between male and female energies. The "masculine" Sun tries on a feminine role in Cancer, and the ultra-feminine Moon gets to experience the masculine pragmatism of Capricorn. Everyone's uncomfortable, and that means there's huge potential for evolution, especially with Pluto trine to Mars and opposing Venus. Mars sextiles Venus and together they form a yod with the Moon. Venus also trines Neptune. Something spiritual, dreamy and romantic is definitely afoot!

Venus Opposes Pluto - July 14

Our core issues around relationships and money are laid bare when the Goddess of Love faces off with the God of the Underworld. Pluto penetrates the subconscious in his relentless drive for transformation. Deep, lasting change is on the horizon.

Moon Occults Uranus - July 14

Expect the unexpected when the Moon aligns with celestial heavyweight Uranus, father of invention, innovation and renegade individualism.
