Rebirth and Renewal

Change is in the air.

In the Northern Hemisphere, spring breezes warm our skin. Days of growing light follow the transformational night of winter.

In the Southern Hemisphere, the days grow shorter. The darkness of winter invites us to turn inward.

No matter where we live, 2006 has already packed a punch. We’ve experienced stubborn fixed crosses, mind-altering eclipses, contentious planetary aspects and transits including Pluto’s remarkable voyage back and forth over the Galactic Center.

The festivals of spring bring a refreshing wave of joy. With higher-dimensional energies, light-spirited fun and the promise of rebirth on the horizon, we can breathe a collective “ahh-h-h-h…”

The Hindu festival of Navaratri, honoring the Divine Mother, is observed for nine days in spring and fall. The Goddess Lakshmi showers us with abundant blessings both spiritual and material.

Pesach, the Jewish feast of Passover, begins at sunset on April 13 and continues for eight days, commemorating the night when the Jews of Egypt painted the door posts of their homes as a sign that the Angel of Death was to spare the family from the death of their firstborn.

The pagan festival of Beltane, coming up May 1, marks the mid-point between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. We celebrate growth and prosperity in our communities as the gardens of spring grow lush and fragrant.

Spring lunar festivals

In esoteric tradition, the lunar festivals during the Sun’s transit of Aries, Taurus and Gemini create, together, a lens for higher-dimensional energy to be focused by the ascended realms into the Earth plane to support humanity’s spiritual evolution.

Easter (Aries), Wesak (Taurus) and Goodwill Festival (Gemini) are the three major spiritual festivals of the year, and collective meditation is especially potent on the nights of each of these Full Moons. We’ll highlight each festival as it approaches.

The spring lunar festivals – unlike Solstice solar festivals - celebrate the yin or feminine principle, the Divine Mother, Spider Woman, the Creatrix within. On these lunations, we empty our vessel so that we may receive the higher-frequency transmissions of the Cosmic Christ to be anchored into the Earth grid.

The first lunar festival is Easter, celebrated on the Full Moon during the Sun’s transit of Aries (April 13 this year). Easter symbolizes the “transfiguration,” or merging of divine self with flesh and blood in the luminous body of light the Master Jesus attained after resurrection.

In the Christian calendar, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the Aries Full Moon, this year on April 16. Tied to the natural cycles of our Earth, Easter has been known since ancient times in pagan traditions as Oestar, Oester or Ostara. This is the equinox alignment of Sun, Earth and Moon marking the onset of spring, a time of rebirth or “resurrection.”

Some of the popular activities and symbols of Easter were borrowed from this ancient festival. Oestra, the patron goddess of the celebration, is represented by a rabbit. Eggs, the symbol of rebirth in many cultures, were decorated and exchanged throughout the festival. With roots in European paganism, the Easter bunny and the practice of decorating eggs, hiding them, and then collecting them in decorated baskets was brought to America in the mid-nineteenth century.

These various traditions share a common theme – the promise of spiritual rebirth, renewal, fertility, the revitalization or “quickening” of spiritual energy at the beginning of the new zodiacal year.

This is a joyful time, a gateway of spiritual enlightenment. Enjoy the journey!

Spring Lunar Gateway Meditations

If you’d like to participate with others who practice collective meditation on these powerful gateway alignments for the benefit of all beings, here are the dates:

Aries/Libra Full Moon (Easter Festival) – the night of April 12 (the Full Moon is exact during the day on April 13)

Taurus/Scorpio Full Moon (Wesak Festival) – the night of May 12

Gemini/Sagittarius Full Moon (Goodwill Festival) – the night of June 10 (the Full Moon is exact during the day on June 11)

Prepare for the group meditation with individual meditation practice. Focus your intent to become a pure vessel for the energies of light and love that you will receive through these gateways.

Mentally align your energy with others who are anchoring the Cosmic Christ energies on Earth at these times. Contact and consciously hold the energies for humanity. You don’t need to observe the exact moment when the moon is full. Just find some quiet time to reflect alone, or gather with others of like mind and focus to meditate together.

The two days after the alignment are considered "days of distribution." Turn your attention outward, allowing the spiritual energies to flow to places of greatest need.

Planetary Alignments Update

The Moon waxes to full this week, charging our energy fields and our dreams. During Full Moon periods, emotions rise like the tides. Crime escalates. More babies are born.

Pluto in Sagittarius still opposes Mars in Gemini, adding to the tension. Slow down. Relax. Breathe. Meditation and yoga will alleviate the emotional stress.

Holding a space of peace is especially important at this time as political leaders grapple with the growing nuclear threat among and between nations.

Full Moon in Libra/Aries – April 13 – 12:40 PM EDT; 4:40 PM GMT

The Moon in Libra opposing the Sun in Aries helps us find the balance between individual freedom and social responsibility. Pluto in Sagittarius opposes Mars in Gemini and together they form a mutable T-square with Mercury in Pisces. Things are changing, opening, beginning anew. Mars, Neptune in Aquarius and the Libra Moon form a grand trine in air signs. Intriguing dialogue leads to fresh perspectives. All full moons illuminate what’s been held in the subconscious. The Moon rules the tides, and our emotions. Libra is the domain of beauty and ideals. This is a perfect time for creative activities, intuitive development and conscious dreaming.

Note on timing: The energy builds as planetary alignments become exact. Prayer, ritual and ceremony are most potent in the hours leading up to the time of the alignment. Celebrate on the night of April 12, as the moon waxes to full.

Mars into Cancer – April 13

Hours after the Full Moon, warrior Mars leaves the heady realms of Gemini and enters the emotional waters of Cancer. The protective, mothering energy of Cancer can smother assertive Mars, who likes to flex his muscle and express his passion. Taming the inner warrior, balancing the masculine-feminine polarity, and finding appropriate outlets for our energies will be themes during this transit.

Sun into Taurus – April 19

The Sun’s transit of Taurus each spring reminds us to care for the Earth and give thanks for the richness of our lives, the material blessings that bring us comfort and a sense of security. Earth Day is celebrated during this transit, this year on April 22. Plant a tree, start your garden, have a healing ceremony for Mother Earth. Gift the Earth as an expression of gratitude for the sustenance she provides.

On the Way to 2012

Our cup overflows these days with explanations and prognostications about “2012,” the elusive code phrase for the end times, shift of consciousness, planetary ascension and countless other visionary possibilities scheduled to take place in our lifetime.

One man who has definitely done his homework on the subject is John Major Jenkins, who visited Santa Fe over the weekend to share his research on 2012 and the “end” of the Mayan calendar. John has traveled extensively in Central America to study the oral histories and monuments of the mysterious Maya who are sharing with humanity their sacred teachings about world cycles and the shift of planetary consciousness now at hand.
