Cancer Moon – Nurturing and Balance
Full Moon in Cancer – January 14 – 4:48 a.m. EST, 9:48 a.m. GMT
With the Earth positioned between the Sun and Moon, the Full Moon alignment is a point of balance representing the union of opposites.
The opposing energies of Cancer and Capricorn remind us of the importance of love and responsibility in our lives. The Moon in Cancer asks: How do we nurture ourselves, and how do we nurture others? The Sun in Capricorn helps us manifest forms in our lives that reflect our ever-expanding consciousness.
The Moon and Cancer represents the feminine, yin principle. At this Full Moon, our receptive, sensitive, emotional nature, our intuition and healing gifts are expanded. The Sun and Capricorn bring masculine, yang qualities. This lunation teaches the importance of balancing the feminine and masculine energies within.
Meanwhile, a Grand Cross in fixed signs energizes the Full Moon. The grand cross involves squares and oppositions that can make us feel at odds with ourselves, or boxed in. Mars in Taurus opposes Jupiter in Scorpio, both square to Neptune in Aquarius opposing Saturn in Leo.
We’re learning to balance practical, individual needs with spiritual and humanitarian concerns. This cross stresses faith, ideals, passion, responsibility and service. As we journey together through the Earth’s transition into a new world age, accelerated change has become the norm. Cancer teaches the importance of nourishment, sustenance, healing, and considering the needs of self as well as the needs of others. Capricorn provides a reality check that balances our intuitive, spiritual nature with physical practicality.
The Moon rules Cancer, so this Moon in her own sign is the most potent of the year. What a perfect time to manifest and create, from the heart. Focus the lens of celestial energy on your highest intentions for yourself, your family, your community and your world in this uncharted new year.

2006 Planetary Alignments Preview
“As above, so below.”
When celestial bodies align, energetic portals are created that facilitate our union with Divine Source. The wisdom of the cosmos, the ecstasy of creation is ours.
How do we tune in?
In ancient times, astrology and astronomy were not separated as they are today. The star priests/priestesses of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Central and South America studied the relationship between heaven and earth. They monitored the natural cycles of creation, guided by the heavens, and sought to anchor celestial energies to support the evolution of earthly consciousness.
Star knowledge has transcended the ages through ancient texts and monuments, indigenous wisdom, metaphysical teachings, spiritual practices, festivals and rituals.
During each solar year, we have 13 lunar cycles, four cardinal gateways (the solstices and equinoxes) and four cross-quarters (mid-points between the solstices and equinoxes). Lunar and solar eclipses occur in pairs or triads. There are other significant planetary alignments and transits each year.

Pluto’s Path
Pluto’s upcoming conjunction with the Galactic Center in Sagittarius is by far the most significant cosmic event of the decade. This tiny planet, located on the fringes of our solar system, is an agent of change through deep, penetrating transformation.
We had a taste of Pluto’s intensity back in 2001-2002, when his direct opposition with Saturn reshaped our world and provided a spiritual wake-up call to humanity. The attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., happened during that time. Now we have Pluto, the Transformer, moving into alignment with the very center of our galaxy, a place of shattering turbulence churning with raw creative energy.
Pluto moves to align with the Galactic Center at 26’ 55” Sagittarius early in 2006, then turns retrograde on March 29 and resumes forward motion on September 4. Although the exact conjunction doesn’t happen until late December, Pluto will be within 1 degree of the Galactic Center all year, so the effects of the alignment will be felt throughout 2006 and 2007.
Two other significant astrological/astronomical events are coming up in the second half of the year.
The Sun, Earth and Moon will align in a Solar Eclipse on September 22, creating a unique, supercharged New Moon on the Autumn Equinox.
On November 8/9, we have the Transit of Mercury. From Earth, the treks of only two planets – Mercury and Venus – across the solar disk are visible. In 2004, we witnessed the Transit of Venus. This year Mercury makes the journey.
Mark Your Calendar
Here are the dates for the annual cardinal points and cross-quarters: Imbolc, February 2; Spring Equinox, March 20; Beltane, May 1; Summer Solstice, June 21; Lammas, August 1; Autumn Equinox, September 22; Samhain, October 31; Winter Solstice, December 21.
We’ll also have four eclipses in 2006: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, March 14-15; Total Solar Eclipse, March 29; Partial Lunar Eclipse, September 7; Annular Solar Eclipse, September 22.
Mercury Retrograde periods call for retreat, review and completing unfinished business. Unless you enjoy do-overs, don’t initiate new projects or sign contracts during these periods: March 2-25, July 4-28, October 28-November 17.
The Transformation Game
This is a pivotal year in the shift of planetary consciousness. The Harmonic Convergence in August 1987 initiated a 25-year period that culminates at the end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012. An astrological Great Year and other vast cycles of time are ending, and new cycles are beginning.
The major theme this year is change, change and more change. Transformation. Letting go. Evaluating what to keep. Preparing to emerge into – and create – a new paradigm.
The Quickening, the Shift of the Ages, the Great Awakening – all refer to the transformation of consciousness that is leading toward an unprecedented Flowering of Love, a new Golden Age of peace and enlightenment on planet Earth.
It’s no mistake that your soul incarnated at this time. You came to experience this transformation first-hand and assist in the awakening of higher consciousness. Enjoy the journey!

Over the next 18 months, the transformation of consciousness on planet Earth will take a quantum leap. As we stand at the threshold of this cosmic opportunity, we have a simple choice – to be guided and empowered by love, or to allow fear to squelch our divine, creative potential.
Pluto’s alignment with the Galactic Center in 2006-2007 will have profound effects on our individual and collective consciousness, on institutions, governments, corporations, the structure of our communities and nations, and on our beautiful planet.
This period of accelerated growth won’t be comfortable. It will be challenging, exhilarating and rewarding.
Earth changes will accelerate in a natural process of purification. Many souls will awaken during this time. Many souls will depart the Earth plane.
Whatever our path, each of us will embark on a journey of discovery through the depths of the subconscious, re-emerging to begin anew at a higher level of consciousness. We will be called to serve in news ways, at a higher level.

Earth Changes Update
In the next issue of Alignments, we’ll explore spiritual and physical preparation for Earth changes.
I’m not a cable TV watcher, but I notice on the Internet that the Weather Channel will begin a new series this weekend on preparing for natural disasters including hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes and wildfires. “It Could Happen Tomorrow” focuses on emergency preparedness in major U.S. cities including New York, San Francisco and Dallas. Scheduled for 9:30 PM Eastern time on Sundays, “It Could Happen Tomorrow” begins January 15 on the Weather Channel with a look at the possibility of a Category 3 hurricane striking New York City.
The disastrous effects of a Category 5 hurricane hitting the Gulf Coast of the United States last fall brought to international attention the need for emergency planning and readiness.
Native elders confirm the Earth changes are upon us. A broadcast like this is a welcome sign of the times.

A Shift in Perspective
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah," said the son.
"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."
The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."
