The changing seasons reflect the changes in our individual and collective consciousness. As evenings grow chilly in the Northern Hemisphere and the trees wrap themselves in their fall wardrobe, we begin to turn inward, to evaluate our progress and growth in the cycle now coming to an end. With global attention focused on the Gulf Coast in America, this is an especially powerful time to direct energy toward this area ravaged by Mother Earth’s natural process of purification. There are seven primary power spots you’ll be connecting with in Peru, Argentina, Mexico, France, Egypt, Russia, and Tibet, chosen because of a particular energetic potential between them. At these seven sites, as well as at many other places, circles of sound will be created with seven crystal singing bowls and other sacred instruments, forming a huge sound wave to create patterns of harmony, acceptance, unity, joy and compassion among all beings. Visit http://www.CircleofSound.org for details. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fall Planetary Alignments Today we begin the autumn cycle of growth and transformation with the Virgo New Moon. An Earth sign, Virgo is concerned with the details of daily life. During this lunar cycle, we’re asked to take inventory of our projects and relationships, read the fine print, and make adjustments in areas where we may be off track. This exercise is perfect preparation as we move toward the Harvest Moon and Fall Equinox. The Harvest Moon is the largest and brightest moon of the year. Traditionally, farmers harvest crops late into the night under her silken light. Notice the size of Grandmother Moon as she crests the horizon on September 17. Allow her to energize your prayers. Join in, or create, a ceremony of peace, thanksgiving and healing. The Sun and Moon on the Virgo-Pisces axis call us to service, to find our special role within the context of planetary evolution, to allow the full force of divine energy to flow through us that we may benefit others and improve our world. The spiritual transcendence of Pisces is brought into proper focus by detail-oriented Virgo. Find your song. Commit to your practice. Follow through. At this lunation Mercury, ruler of Virgo, will be conjunct the Sun. Esoterically, this alignment creates a portal to higher consciousness, a greater awareness of the cosmos and our place within it. Pluto forms a T-square in mutable signs with the Sun, Moon and Mercury, providing a transformational boost for releasing long-standing patterns and making room for an influx of divine inspiration. The Sabian symbols for this Full Moon are eerily prophetic. For the Sun at 26 degrees Virgo: “A boy with a censer serves the priest near the altar; the first stage of actual participation in the great ritual of planetary evolution.” For the Moon at 26 degrees Pisces: “Watching the very thin moon crescent appearing at sunset, different people realize that the time has come to go ahead with their different projects.” Traditional harvest celebration follows the Full Moon by a few days when the Sun enters Libra on September 22. Libra, the sign of the scales, brings us back into balance, integrating incoming spiritual energies at a higher level. The Autumn Equinox is a point of balance in the solar year when day and night are of equal length. At the Autumn Equinox we celebrate the bounty of the fall harvest and begin to prepare for the Bear Lodge of winter. As the Earth moves further from the Sun, her warmth and light recede, nudging us to go within to discover our inner light and truth, to explore the unknown depths of our hearts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An Autumn to Remember The early fall planetary alignments lead directly into a series of eclipses that will reshape our world (again) in October. An annular Solar Eclipse on October 3 is mated with a partial Lunar Eclipse on October 17. On the physical level, eclipses are associated with extreme weather events and seismic activity. Spiritually, they provide opportunities for accelerated soul evolution and multidimensional experience. The effects of these eclipses will be magnified by Mars’ retrograde transit in Taurus. Mars stations retrograde on October 1 and returns to forward motion in early December. The last retrograde of Mars in Taurus happened in 1973-74 - when the Watergate crisis unseated the presidency of Richard M. Nixon in the U.S. Adding to this mix is a “yod” - a triangular aspect pattern indicating deeply spiritual and transformational energies - formed by Jupiter and Pluto with retrograde Mars at the apex. Astrologer Shelley Ackerman, who has researched Mars’ transits of Taurus extensively, predicts that “during this time, we will experience a round of intense drama that surpasses anything we’ve seen in recent years.” We will look more closely at the specifics of these configurations, and their potential impact, in the next issue of Alignments. For now, it will be wise to reserve as much down time as possible - silent or group retreat would be ideal - in the first half of October, not only to integrate the incoming energies, but to disengage from a collective consciousness that will become increasingly agitated. Katrina may be just the beginning. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Earth Changes Update “These changes might not be convenient for humans, but the Earth will make them anyway.” - Sun Bear It’s time. We’ve been dancing around the issue of Earth changes for years. “Do you think the Earth changes map is accurate?” “Are Gordon Michael Scallion’s predictions true?” “Is the world self-destructing?” Yes and no. The attacks on New York and Washington, D.C., four years ago, the earthquakes and tsunami in Indonesia last December, and this week’s hurricane Katrina could all be interpreted as the fulfillment of spiritual, and scientific, prophecy. We live in what the Maya call the End Times. This is the Great Purification, the transition period when the Fourth World is ending and the World of the Fifth Sun is dawning. The prophecies of Earth’s wisdom traditions coincide with metaphysical and scientific thought. Throughout Earth’s 4+ billion year life cycle, she occasionally “cleans house.” Periods of intense seismic and volcanic activity, along with purification by water and fire, are a normal part of Earth’s evolutionary process. In metaphysical literature, a previous round of Earth changes resulted in the sinking of the continents of Atlantis and Lemuria. Some believe they will rise again during this round. Scientists may not agree with the Atlantean/Lemurian theory, but they will tell you that geological evidence points to periods of intense shifting of the Earth’s tectonic plates, electromagnetic grid and climate. Add to that the environmental destruction caused by rapidly growing human civilization - global warming, deforestation, thinning of the atmosphere - and we have a recipe for catastrophe. Do humans cause Earth changes? No. Do humans contribute to the severity of the changes? Absolutely. Can humans do anything to lessen their impact on the Earth and ease the intensity of the changes? Yes. Sustainable living along with prayer, meditation and ceremony are vitally important to help Mother Earth and humanity regain their balance. Throughout the period of the changes, we experience intense transformation, followed by integration at a higher level. This process happens at the cosmic, planetary, communal and individual levels. What is your role in the transformation of consciousness? Who supports you? Whom do you support? Vast cycles are ending and new ones beginning. These are challenging times. While we grieve the losses, we also celebrate potential new life and the countless acts of love, generosity and courage demonstrated in response to crisis.
