Tsunamis. Terri Schiavo’s ordeal. The Red Lake school shootings. What do these events teach us about ourselves? What’s happening in our external world today reflects what’s happening on the deepest levels of our individual and collective consciousness. What’s happening? Change. We are completing vast cosmic and planetary cycles and beginning new ones. Something has to give. A lot of things have to give. When forces deep within the Earth reach a critical point, an explosive shift is inevitable. The same happens with human beings, situations, governments, economies and institutions. A tidal wave of change is sweeping through our lives, both literally and metaphorically. Earth changes have been prophesied in indigenous traditions around the world for many generations. We live during the times the Hopi call the Great Purification. This is all part of the natural cycle of creation. What’s purifying, what’s dying within us? What’s struggling to be born? Today we’re experiencing the death throes of a world age coming to an end, while a new world age is being born. This passage is the birth of a new consciousness, a new way of being based on love, compassion and service. The Earth’s heart chakra is opening. Humanity’s Buddha heart is awakening. Planetary alignments support this transformation by influencing events on Earth. The effects will intensify in coming months. Last year’s Wesak eclipses in May, the Transit of Venus in June, and the Harmonic Concordance II eclipse alignments in November altered the Earth’s electromagnetics and gravitational field. On December 26, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake near Indonesia ruptured a 1,200 km trail beneath the ocean -- the longest ever recorded -- and created a tsunami that swept a path of destruction from Sri Lanka to Thailand. Nearly 300,000 people are still missing or known to be dead. The sheer force of the quake altered the Earth’s rotational axis and spin, moved the North Pole and changed the length of our days. On March 28, a second quake measuring 8.7 killed 1,000 in the same area. On March 22, a high school student on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota fatally shot nine people and then killed himself. Despite attempts by her family to “save” her, Terri Schiavo has now passed. A powerful Solar Eclipse is coming up on April 8, followed by a Lunar Eclipse on April 24. The timing is not a coincidence. Eclipses are associated with increased seismic activity, severe weather events, human violence and deaths. As the Earth quakes and opens up, opportunities are awakened. Opportunities to change. Opportunities to release the past and choose love, or to resist and choose fear. Opportunities to heal and forgive, or to clutch and be ripped apart. The upcoming Solar Eclipse on April 8 is one of the most powerful in recent times. The alignment of Sun, Earth and Moon occurs on the Aries New Moon, which signifies moving forward. Retrograde Jupiter opposes the New Moon. Mercury is also retrograde. An incredible push-and-pull energy is built into this eclipse -- the dynamics of change. Solar eclipses are about active, self-motivated changes. At the New Moon, we feel a need to create, to begin anew. This energy is amplified in Aries. New beginnings also mean endings and letting go. A Lunar Eclipse follows on April 24, on the Wesak Full Moon. Wesak is the Buddhist celebration of the birth, death and enlightenment of the Buddha. This is the third year in a row that a Lunar Eclipse has coincided with the Wesak Full Moon, another opportunity to allow healing, change and growth. Lunar Eclipses are about passive, inner changes. The Moon in Scorpio digs deep beneath the surface to uncover shadow material in the psyche, illuminating what we’ve held in the unconscious. The Wesak eclipse facilitates this passage by opening our hearts. At this lunation, we must face the subconscious beliefs, fears, motives and emotions that have been holding us back. What is changing in your life? What’s passing away? What wants to be born through you? Pay attention to dreams, the voice of your soul. What needs to change within the collective? Watching the headlines will let us know. We can work consciously with these energies in a number of ways: - Serve humanity and the Earth. Prayer, meditation, ceremony and healing work helps us attune to divine energies and anchor peace within ourselves and the Earth grid. By practicing this as individuals, we affect the collective. These practices are especially effective at sacred sites and/or at the exact times of the alignments (see below). - Focus on changes within your own life. Journaling, prayer, meditation and intention work throughout this period will facilitate the needed changes on an individual level. At the New Moon Solar Eclipse, focus on conscious changes. At the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, focus on healing and contact your soul. - Nurture yourself. Eclipses affect us physically, mentally and emotionally. Allow time and space for your inner processing. Connect with the Earth through yoga, t’ai chi, chi gong, running, walking, hiking or swimming. Eat grounding foods like root vegetables and leafy greens. Bathe in hot springs or at home in sea salt and minerals. - Align with your purpose and take action. What do you feel passion about? What are you feeling called to do? Is your work changing? Offer yourself to be of service and allow opportunities to be attracted to you. Follow through and feel the ripples of bliss pass through your being as you dynamically live your purpose. The eclipse period in April is a new beginning, a gateway, an opportunity to open our hearts more fully, to embrace change, and to live with more passion and com-passion, as the Buddha did. The energies are most powerful in the hours leading up to and just past the exact times of the alignments, and the effects will be felt for months before and after. Areas of visibility are also areas where the energies will be felt most intensely. Solar Eclipse -- April 8 -- 4:32 p.m. EST; 8:32 p.m. GMT (exact Sun-Moon-Earth alignment) Hybrid Annular-Total Eclipse of the Sun. This eclipse begins April 8 at 5:51 p.m. GMT and ends at 11:20 p.m. GMT. A hybrid, or annular-total, eclipse is seen as annular (when a narrow ring of the Sun is visible beyond the dark mask of the Moon) in some areas, as a total eclipse in other areas, and as a partial eclipse over a larger area. This eclipse is visible in New Zealand, part of Antarctica, the southern United States, Central America, the Caribbean and South America except the eastern and southern parts. Wesak Lunar Eclipse -- April 24 -- 6:06 a.m. EST; 10:06 a.m. GMT (exact Sun-Moon-Earth alignment) Penumbral Eclipse of the Moon. This eclipse begins April 24 at 7:49 a.m. GMT and ends at 11:59 a.m. GMT. The beginning of the penumbral phase is visible in North America, Central America, South America, New Zealand, eastern Australia, eastern Indonesia, most of Antarctica, North Pacific Ocean, South Pacific Ocean, Bering Sea, and the western Atlantic Ocean. The end is visible in western North America, most of Mexico, the extreme southern tip of South America, Indonesia, eastern Asia, New Zealand, Australia, Antarctica, the Pacific Ocean and the eastern Indian Ocean.
