So once the dust settles and the post re-organization environment unfolds, where is the energy with which you need to lead?
As we have talked about previously, the morale just prior to a re-org, during a re-org, and after a re-org is less than upbeat. That's where YOU come in to lead your team and charge them up. You must bring the necessary energy and motivation to communicate the vision and believe in it wholeheartedly. Leading is not easy, and I am not implying that you need to act like a Pollyanna, but your team needs to see and feel positive energy from you. If they don't experience positive energy from their leadership, how will they be encouraged to put their best foot forward?
Strong leaders truly understand that their employees are all different. You may have heard or even felt that regardless of the number of employees for which you are responsible, you actually have to manage double that number of personalities. If that is true, it makes leading a team even more challenging. You might then wonder how anyone can successfully tackle this type of challenge. I recently had the pleasure of engaging with a new client who wholeheartedly supports engaging his team from the very beginning and actively bringing them on board so that they clearly understand the vision, objectives, expectations and their role in the organization.
Nelson Bean, President of Evans Team USA Corporation, a rapid response disaster recovery firm, totally believes in demonstrating positive energy, a can-do attitude and a zest for over-deliverying to his clients. Naturally, this positive attitude and enthusiasm permeate his organization. Why? Because he so strongly believes in it and lives it. He unequivocally is a true example of a leader who believes in his people, his company and their collective ability to get the job done and exceed the customer's expectations. Evans Team continually delivers the platinum service rule to their clients by providing services to them in the manner in which their clients want them. Mr. Bean also inspires his team because of the energy and confidence he brings to work every day.... a living example.
Energy and enthusiasm are two key characteristics of effective leaders. Those qualities are contagious, and they create a positively charged working environment. For those subscribers in the Houston area who might be interested in learning more about this, I want to make you aware of an event I am organizing through the Greater Heights Chamber of Commerce. Please join me in welcoming a dear friend, Jon Gordon, nationally renowned speaker and author, to Houston on Thursday, July 19th at the Sheraton Brookhollow Hotel for a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. It was through networking that I met Jon two years ago, and I want to help support him as he begins a national tour to promote his latest book, The Energy Bus, http://www.jongordon.com/theenergybustour.html.
Until next time,
