With the election having just passed and the holiday season coming up, it reminds me that we have so many things for which to be grateful:
- Grateful that we live in a country where we enjoy the privilege of having the right to vote for the candidate of our choice
- Grateful that our economy prospers through business growth and an increase in jobs
- Grateful for our clients who continue to buy goods and services that we offer and who graciously refer new business to us
- Grateful for our vendors who provide us with the materials, goods and services that we need in order for us to deliver quality merchandise and services to our own customers
Several years ago when I was a sales account executive for Sprint, one of my newly acquired clients invited me to a vendor appreciation luncheon. I was elated because in my previous twelve years in sales, no customer had ever mentioned being appreciative of their vendors, at least not by way of public acknowledgement. It made a positive impact on me and my team, one which I will never forget. In my experience, few companies take the time to thank their vendors, build trust and solidify relationships with them.
When I attended the luncheon that first year and then again for two more years, I was truly flattered and honored to be recognized for providing services which my client stated "allowed them to grow and keep up with the technology of the future". The client was thanking my team for being a part of their success. The recognition bestowed upon us inspired us to work even harder towards their success.
After that third luncheon, the client organization was acquired by another company. The annual vendor appreciation program dissolved. Albeit just a few short years that we were privileged to participate in this vendor appreciation program, it certainly left a good impression on me and the other vendors in attendance. The program clearly broadcast senior leadership's commitment to maintaining and fostering quality and trust with their vendors.
Thus, as we enter the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, in addition to thanking your clients for their business, please take a moment to acknowledge and thank your vendors. They help you succeed in providing goods and services to your clients, and they will be most appreciative and will want to do even more for you, their client.
Wishing you a blessed, safe and joyous holiday season!
