Why Do I Do It?
No matter what you do for a living, there are always stressful days when you wonder why you do it and what keeps you going. I suspect we all have those days or moments when we lose perspective and forget about our contribution to the world and those around us. I confess, even though I love what I do and I know I'm on the right track to fulfilling my intended purpose here, I still have "those days" just like anyone else does.
Today, I am admittedly stressed. I'm planning a new episode of Mission Organization and it's a really challenging one! My book deadlines are looming large and to top it off, I have a nagging headache.
But today I also received a holiday card in the mail from a client, which made me pause and be grateful. This woman's words reminded me why I am in the business that I'm in. And believe me, it's not just because I'm good at organizing things and information, and finding faster, easier more logical ways to work and live... anyone can do that with enough training and practice.
I'm in this business because it changes lives. It gives people peace in their homes and the opportunity to think, be, and live differently than they did yesterday. I'd like to share with you what this woman wrote. It touched my heart and I hope gives you a glimpse into the rewards this business brings.
"Dear Monica,
Thank you for touching our lives and helping us with getting organized. This is the first year that Christmas cards have gotten out in six years or more... I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be getting cards out this year. Slowly but surely we are getting the pieces together. Thanks for your help, your workshops, and your newsletter. I pray that 2005 continues to bring you success."
That is a small sampling of the kind of cards and emails that I often receive and that, friends, is why I do what I do.
How Many Are FREEcycling Today?
Decluttering your life is a wonderful way to rid yourself of the things that no longer give you value and a great way to help someone in need at the same time. All over the world, people are helping others and decluttering their lives by giving away the things they no longer need, through FREEcycle.org. This means that fewer items are going into the trash and filling up the landfills of our planet.
It's so simple to join! You just sign up through the web site, and you'll begin getting the emails that people in your local FREEcycle group send out either seeking free items, or offering free items. It's as simple as that! Just go to www.FREEcycle.org to sign up!
