"No Retirement" by
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. John 21:18 KJV
The story is told of an aqueduct built by the Romans in the 1st century BC. After more than 1,500 years of faithful service, the city fathers decided to preserve the structure that continued to bring clean, fresh water to their city. They built a modern pipe-based water channel to replace the old stone structure.
No longer serving it's purpose, the old stone structure began immediately and rapid deterioration. Use and functionality kept the old aqueduct alive. Lack of use became a death sentence.
Perhaps you're enjoying a season of rest and restoration. A new season of work and ministry are in your future. Maybe you've been a faithful Gospel laborer for many years. You will do more and better work in the future.
God's saints have no retirement plan. You will simply receive your reward in heaven. Until then, God has a purpose and plan for your life.
Groan if you must. Adopt a slower pace, if you have to. God has a purpose and plan for your life. Serve Him, until the end.
Think: God's saints rust out faster than they wear out.
Pray: “Lord, give me a heart to serve You until the very end.”
