"The Welts Are A Blessing" by
Kirk Hunt Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty Job 5:17 KJV I have never thanked my parents for correction or chastisement. It was always unpleasant. In fact, it almost always hurt. Still, I would not be the man I am today without Momma and Poppa's correction. As I grew older, I understood how much I needed correction and discipline. The tongue lashings and belt strokes taught me obedience and self-control, wisdom and judgment. In the end, my life is better and happier because of their “teaching.” I don't often enough thank God for His correction and admonishments in my life. The “strokes” I have received from Him have kept me in His Way and Will. His welts, on the back side of my heart, have become badges of honor on the front side of my soul. We know these words of Eliphaz are mis-applied toward Job's situation. They are still words that should guide the life of every Christian. God corrects whom He loves. God's true sons and daughters accept His correction. The best among us respond with joy and thanksgiving. The rest of us submit with humility and obedience. God loves you. The best evidence of His love is His correction. He will understand if you aren't quick to say “thanks.” Think: God's discipline is always a blessing. Pray: “Lord, help me to help me to receive your correction, ultimately, with thanksgiving.” Copyright © September 2008, Kirk Hunt |
