"The Company You Keep" by
Kirk Hunt And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle. (Exodus 33:11 KJV) The company you keep has an impact on your life. Moses and Joshua chose God almighty. Where do you spend your time? In this digital era, we tend toward microwave interactions. The chat is over, almost before it begins. No niceties. No graciousness. Don't treat God the same way. Instead, spend serious amounts of time with the Creator. Become familiar with His voice. Get familiar with His presence. Time spent in prayer, Bible study or private worship are never wasted. As the minutes become hours, the impact on your mind, heart and soul will grow. The people around you will see the difference. You will feel the difference. There are more ways than ever to frivolously spend your time. There's never a shortage of people who will lead you to distraction. Or hold you there, if you arrive on your own. It's no surprise that Joshua had the moral fiber to face down a crowd. There's no question of the source of power in Moses' life. Their time in God's presence transformed them into the saints of Scripture we know and love. Their stature in God is available to you. Change the company you keep. Take your time getting to know Him. Think: The richest things of God take time and intention. Pray: “Lord, teach me to spend unhurried time in Your presence.” Copyright © March 2008, Kirk Hunt |
