"Rain" by Kirk Hunt
Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary. (Psalms 68:9 KJV) Desert rains are extraordinary. The air itself becomes sweet to smell, if not taste. The plants and trees almost visibly drink in the life-giving water. The downpour allows buds and flowers to spring up, as if by magic. The arid land and thirsty plants bloom and grow lush before your eyes. In the desert, water is life. In a day or two there may be no evidence of the rains, but for a while everything changes. He had me pinned in a corner. Deliberately, there was no where to go. And his words kept falling on me. Like rain. There was no correction, just kindness. No rebukes, only encouragement. He spoke as only a Gospel brother and friend can. I knew I needed the rain, but even I didn't realize how much. My arid soul responded. My thirsty heart drank it in. My weary mind and spirit bloomed in the downpour. God sees you and the dry places of your life. He will not forget to pour His Spirit, like water, into your life and circumstances. You will bloom again. His plentiful rain can always be found in His Word. Still, from time-to-time, He sends special messages. Don't be fooled: His special couriers look like everyday saints. Think: When last did you rain encouragement on a spiritual brother or sister? Pray: “Lord, I thank You for those who encourage and bless others in Your Name.”
