“ And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. (1 Kings 18:36 KJV) No screaming and yelling. No blood-letting. No wild gyrations. Elijah simply faced the presence of God and asked. Simple faith called out to Eternity. Common devotion drew an almighty audience. Quiet devotion is the most difficult. Simple faith strains us the most. Both require the upmost faith in God and the least in ourselves. And they tend to lead you to extreme acts of obedience. Real Faith will lead you up mountains and into lopsided showdowns. Your devotion to Him will let you walk among the pagans in calm dignity. And when you speak, all they will hear is Him. Your little prayers and big obedience are evidence of your simple faith. Your devotion to God will let you move in quiet confidence. Your sincere faith moves God, not staged theatre. Elijah calmly positioned himself between the leadership of Israel and the false-priests of Ba'al. Faith allowed Elijah to pray a little prayer. Confidence in God allowed Elijah to expect big results. Your faith and devotion to God will not go unanswered. He hears the words of your heart, long before the words of your lips. Speak anyway, so the people around you can hear. Think: My faith is in God, not myself. Pray: “Lord, teach me to rely on Your power and pupose in my life.” Copyright © September 2007, Kirk Hunt |
