“ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. (1 Samuel 16:13 KJV) The evening of David's anointing had been dramatic and full of extraordinary promise. In the cold light of morning, ordinary life and work resumed. Samuel moved on, fulfilling his duties as Prophet. David went back to the sheep. There's a silent pause between verses 13 and 14. It's not hard to imagine that weeks or months passed. To the untrained eye, the anointing didn't change anything. To an eye trained by faith, the anointing changed everything. The forging of David's heart now continued under the direct supervision of the Holy Spirit. For David, leading the sheep served as practice for leading men and nations. You are where you are. You are doing what you're doing. Your anointing and calling remain valid and vital. The forging of your heart is under the direct supervision of the Holy Spirit. Your ordinary current tasks are equipping you for extraordinary future service. Your “silent pause” is part of His plan for your life. His purpose for You is astonishing. Today's circumstances may seem common or even trivial. Faithful eyes see past the pause. Faithful hands work despite the silence. Think: I need to work until my change comes. Pray: “Lord, what is Your will for my life. That is what I want to do.” Copyright © August 2007, Kirk Hunt |
