“ And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people. (2 Kings 4:13 KJV) The generosity and care of the Shunammite woman had earned the gratitude and appreciation of Elisha. Elisha in turn offered to introduce her at court, enhancing her social, political and perhaps economic condition. Most people would gladly accept Elisha’s offer of an introduction to the king. Being wise, the Shunammite turned it down. She made provision for Elisha because he was a man of God. She spent money and effort because it furthered the prophet’s ministry. The only reward she expected, or wanted, was God’s approval. Confident in position and place, the Shunammite chose to be content. Her goal remained to serve and provide where she lived. She loved her audience of “locals” and sought to continue serving the Kingdom, building at home. What rewards you? Acclaim? Money? Serving God’s Kingdom? The hearts around you need what you have. The souls in your neighborhood are blessed by your faithfulness. Honor the ministry God has given you, no matter how “locals only” it seems. Ask God to give you an audience to serve. Benefit them simply for His Approval. Bless and provide, through His Power, where you are. Think: My service to God is significant, no matter how small the stage. Pray: “Lord, help me to be faithful, right where I am.” Copyright © June 2007, Kirk Hunt |
