“ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 KJV) My son likes to know why. “Why do it this way?” “Why now?” “Why do this at all?” He's not being adversarial or lazy. He just wants to understand. In many cases, it does not matter if he understands why. He just needs to trust me and do his best work. Sometimes, I try to explain. Every time, I ask him to trust me and obey. Some times, he figures it out as he works. Other times, he just never gets it. I also like to know why. In my head, I know I should just trust God and do my best work. Still, sometimes, I approach His Throne with a long list of questions. It's human nature to want control. Understanding why is a form of control. Thankfully, God is in control. I just need to trust Him and do my best work. Faith requires trust. I should have complete trust in God. “If you can't trust the creator of the universe....” Sometimes, God explains to me. Sometimes, understanding grows out of my obedience. Too often, I never get it at all. It's okay. Sooner or later, I remember to trust Him. The sooner I do that, the better it is for me. Understanding is good. Knowing why is valuable. Trusting God is best. Think: My faith grows out of trust of God. Pray: “Lord, help me base my faith on my trust of You.” Copyright © May 2007, Kirk Hunt |
