“ And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. (2 Samuel 6:14 KJV) David shrugged off his royal robes. He tossed his crown to the side like a trinket. His station and rank as the king of Israel were easily forgotten. David casually threw off all of the thoughts, concerns and issues of his life. David intended to worship. David pulled on a linen ephod, a garment normally restricted to the priests. There is precious little description elsewhere in Scripture. We gather from Michal's comments in verse 20, that the ephod was not an extensive garment. David only cared about worshiping God. With extravagance and heartfelt intensity, David danced. For the moment, nothing but loving God mattered. Why would the king of Israel caper and gyrate through Jerusalem in boxer shorts? The Ark of the Covenant, the physical symbol of God's Presence among men, was entering Jerusalem. David celebrated the event, and His God, with his all. While he worshiped, every other consideration became small and unimportant. David would not allow his own dignity to stand between him and God. David danced for an audience of One. When did you last worship? Did you really put off your station and rank? Did you truly seek Him in nothing but a “priestly garment?” Will God think you worshiped with all your might? Are you worshiping for an audience of One? Think: My worship of God should be heartfelt and extravagant. Pray: “Lord, I will worship You with everything I am.” Copyright © April 2007, Kirk Hunt |
