“ Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. (John 2:4-5 KJV) Mary approached her Son, Messiah, with confidence. Her dilemma lay on the other side of her power, but not His. She never doubted, for a moment, that He could repair the situation. What's missing is the tone of the conversation. Tense confrontation? Fond negotiation? Likely their chat had the complex interplay that can only exist between a mother and her adult son. Despite the text of Jesus' words, Mary set the servants in motion. Mary never doubted. The idea that Jesus could not help never entered her mind. I don't see it in the text of verse 4, but Mary knew He would help. Do you have Mary's confidence? Is there a question in your mind about Jesus' power, especially for your life? Are you sure Jesus has the ability to change your circumstances? Mary's orders to the servants came from her faith in Jesus. If you can call complete confidence and belief in the Son of God “faith.” For her it was not a matter of “if,” but “how.” Jesus protected the family from humiliation and embarrassment. The wedding feast continued in joy and plenty. Mary's confidence strengthened in the light of His power. He cared then. He cares now. Do you have the confidence to ask Him to shine His light in your life? Think: Faith leads to confidence in Jesus. Pray: “Lord, help me have confidence in You.”
