Valentine's Month I always think of February as being Valentine’s Month – even though we celebrated with just a short trip to the Columbia Gorge Hotel. I absolutely love the thought of this month. I love the very idea of thinking romantically about your spouse or partner, of trying to be more thoughtful of each other, of thinking about your future together. Which always reminds me about the classic “road trip dilemma.” In each couple, there is usually one who hears the call of the open road much more clearly than the other one! So is the loving, romantic thing to do to persuade your partner how much fun this will be and to plan this great get-away together, or is the wiser path to acquiesce to the needs of the more reluctant partner and go slowly when delving into your road trip dreams? I’m sure there is no one right answer, but I can only say that taking a long road trip together is a very romantic adventure. When it is only the two of you day after day, you have only each other to lean on and you certainly learn new things about the other one as you live your journey day by day. Whether you are the reluctant one or the one ready to hit the road tomorrow, I can only say – be sure to lovingly figure out what you each need – and go make your trip happen. You will never regret your decision.

What are you going to do this summer? Spring is almost here, and with that annual procession to summer comes thoughts of “what are we going to do this summer?” Most of you know that I’m a firm believer that saying it makes it so.
The first step to making your dreams come true is writing down a date and what you want to do. So I was thinking maybe we’d practice this month! Write down one travel goal for this summer – the date you’ll leave and what you want to do. No it doesn’t have to be your big road trip dream trip – it can be just a little dream – a preparation for your “real” road trip dream. Email me the date, a brief description and your name. Next month we’ll share your ideas on the list (only if you want me to – it can be just between you and me!).
Saying it makes it real. You’ll be surprised how quickly things start happening that will make it a reality. Try it! We’ll have fun with it.
Here, I'll go first...
June 1-4 - Lake Chelan, WA with Lois and Dick - wine tasting, catching up, walking, shopping and other mischief.

Wide-Eyed Wanderers
I just can’t believe it, but it is true. I’ve looked back through all the old newsletters, and find that I have never told you about Rich and Amanda Ligato. Their adventures make us look like real sissies! Rich and Amanda took three years and traveled Latin America, South America, and To give you some idea of what you are in for with the Ligatos, let me just excerpt a few sentences of the introduction – not even yet into the meat of the story! The soldier looked like a bulldog. He rested his arm on the dented, scratched automatic weapon strapped across his chest and drummed hi chubby fingers on the barrel. He barked abruptly in Spanish, “You have crossed the bridge and must pay the toll,”… Amanda rolled her eyes upward and gave the faintest hint of a sinister smile, a sign obvious to me, but the soldier had no idea. “Why should we pay?” she yapped back in Spanish. … …The soldier moved in closer. “You will pay or you will go back.” … …She turned to me and said in English, “Roll up your window and let’s get out of here.” … I looked at her in disbelief. This was a soldier with a machine gun… “Go now!”
My heart was pounding. I smashed the pedal to the floor … as I looked in the mirror to see if the soldier had raised his gun. YIKES!! And such are the adventures encountered on their fascinating journey outside of the
