Let There Be Light!

Ah, summer; the heat, the humidity and the power outages.  Living in the most diverse community in Queens means power outages.  Well, not exactly.  I only lost power twice. There were brownouts most of the week.  I spent lots of time in a really warm, dark apartment bemoaning how I hated summer.  Bring on the cool breezes, large wet snowflakes and the muddy boots.  Clearly, I am not a summer person.

Why can’t things just work smoothly?  Are you like me and find things can get really annoying?  Yep.  Years of spiritual study, workshops and regular Church attendance has not lessened my ability to get really cranky at petty annoyances.  What is person to do?  Well this is what I do.  I get cranky - bring out my inner tantrum and let it go.  Honestly it works much better then putting on bemused but seriously seething underneath smile.  Have you ever met someone that smiles all the time but get them angry and suddenly this dark force emerges and you are seriously frightened?  Hey being mysterious can be fun but being borderline unpredictable is not fun for anyone.

So if summer is your season by all means enjoy it.  But please take pity on poor folks like me who get a little testy with temps over 80 degrees.  When the bitter winds blow I promise I will give you wide berth and a knowing smile.  We all have our seasons to shine.  Here’s hoping you will enjoy yours when it comes around.

Summer Break:  There will be no August issue of WWN.  See you in mid-September with a spiffy looking new format.  In the meantime consider ending the summer with a little love.  Reverend Laurie Sue offers some hot advice for a cool summer of love.  Read it here. . . Take A Vacation to the Land of Summer Love

Wild Woman Tips

A crisis has a life. We are overwhelmed.  We aren’t only affected by immediate problems but the daily news greets us with an overload of disaster, war, famine and destruction.  It is hard not feel a bit of tension in just living in a world that seems filled with strife. To be still does not mean you are without issues and problems.  It is how we manage these problems that will make a difference.

In the center of a storm there is calm.  But how do we get to a place of stillness?

Ten small steps to stillness:

1.       Take time to breathe

2.       Take a crisis break

3.       Walk

4.       Watch a funny movie

5.       Create art

6.       Keep a journal

7.       Keep the counsel of a trusted friend or advisor

8.       Choose the high road

9.       Practice gratefulness

10.   Remember who and what is important

Romantic tips by Laurie Sue Brockway

13 Steps For Making Your Romantic Dreams Come True:

"Always be ready - you can meet that special someone at the most unexpected times and places." -- Dr. Judy Kuriansky, The Complete Idiot's Guide To Dating

Welcome to Project Soul Mate.

These tips will help you to open your heart, your arms and your life to love in 2005 and beyond.  Forget about searching for the one who might be The One. First, clean up stuff you no longer need, get your life in order, and simultaneously, get ready for love. Here are just a few of my pearls of wisdom on the topic, culled from more than 25 years of work on the front line of the Relationship Revolution and many more than that out and about on Love's Battlefield.

Tip # 13: Trust that your day will come

Soul mates are psychically and spiritually connected, and they move one another along, even if they haven’t yet met or recognized one another. Even in the silences and the spaces, trust that there is another who shares your dreams and longs to meet you. Nurturing and building a life with someone takes work, yet soul mates that prepare for love have more time to love one another when they finally meet!
