Welcome...

To our new and returning readers! This issue of WAT focuses on the power of email signatures. Yeah, I know, we've all heard about it before, but here's a twist...

The Power of Email Signatures...

So you're living in a virtual world. And, you want one of those groovy cool email signatures. I can't tell you how often I see a boring sig with a URL, phone #, and address. I mean, what's the point? They already *have* your email address, if they're looking at your email signature, don't they?

Your sig line is a great place to wow 'em! Of all the email marketing avenues out there, the signature line is probably one of the least emphasized, and most read part of your email marketing efforts.

Instead of the usual contact stuff, why not:

  • Pose a provocative question?
e.g. "Does your marketing need a translator?"
  • Offer a luscious give away?
e.g. "Get 30 minutes of my brain, simply for signing up for my ezine"
  • Be mysterious?
e.g. "What makes you wiggle?" Thanks to coach Ellie Pope for this one.
  • Be funny?
e.g. "Are you twisted?"- My own personal sig. that I follow with a link to this zine.
  • Have a picture of you? Sorry, no example this time ;-)
  • Post a cont^st?
    e.g. "W^n 30 minutes of my brain!"
  • Post an event you're hosting?
e.g. "Your blog in 15 minutes! Begins this Tuesday."
  • Post the first clue of a treasure hunt on your site?
e.g. "Where's Waldo?", then link back to your site.

Here's one of my favorite sigs from a programmer friend (names and #'s removed for privacy):

PICK/Unix Systems Group
(123) 271-5131
PICK|UNIX|PERL|PHP
open(OUT, ">$home/.signature") || die "Sig files suck, anyways...\n";

(translation: the above code is written in perl language, this lad's specialty)

So, go get creative, and just say "No!" to boring email signatures. (Oh, and do try to keep your sig under 4 lines, it's just courteous and more professional)

Are You Twisted?
