Press releases were sent and area schools were sent packets of information. The contest is open to area private, public, and home-schooled youth in grades 9 - 12. The theme is "Summer" and students may submit fiction, nonfiction, and poetry manuscripts. Judging will be in January 2010 and prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries. The 1st place winner will have his/her manuscript published in the Writers Guild Anthology "Summer" and will be invited with his/her parents to the Madison County Arts Council Annual Dinner on March 6, 2010. Community Relations: A benefit BBQ lunch will be served at the Kimbro Center on Saturday, October 3 from 10:00 am until the food runs out. The proceeds will benefit Josh Collard and his family. Josh is a heart transplant patient and the son of Eddie and Glenda Collard and the grandson of Burke and Lena Landry. Josh's medical care is extensive and on-going and any help would be appreciated. Plates will be $8.00 and there will also be a silent auction. Please plan to join the Collards and Landrys next Saturday at the Kimbro Center.
