Because you deserve an extraordinary life
"Success means fulfilling your own
dreams, singing your own song, dancing your own dance, creating from your heart
and enjoying the journey, trusting that whatever happens, it will be OK.
Creating your own adventure!"-- Elana Lindquist
Welcome to to this first and long-overdue musing from thought matters!
In my practice I often work with people who feel they are falling short of success in their lives - whether in relationships, in their careers, with their bodies and their health or in other areas. So the obvious question for me to ask is "What does success mean to you?"
Yet many clients can't answer that. They know what they SHOULD do, they have an idea of what they OUGHT to do, or what they're SUPPOSED to do. They know what other people EXPECT of them, or what their DUTY is.
*sigh* There's not much delight in 'duty'. Not much spark with 'should'. And no excitement with 'expectation'. So I challenge them to come up with their own definition of success. How will they know they've acheived what they dream of if they haven't taken the time to dream? Just as we can't go anywhere without at least a destination, if not a road map, we can't achieve success in any area of our lives until we have a personal idea of what it means.
For me, for instance, being successful at health means being comfortable in my body. And that hinges on having moved it pleasurably during the day to get the kinks out, feeding it nutritious foods that give it steady energy, keeping it juicy and hydrated and sleeping adequately so I wake before the alarm feeling refreshed. Since I know what success at health means for me, I can reach for it every day.
So here's your challenge - look at an area of your life where you think you're not as sucessful as you'd like to be. And redefine success until it's something that makes your heart sing!
